Pipe Dance - an arabic piece inspired by a faucet
Many years ago, there was a student band formed in USM by a jazz drummer Adriel Wong. The band focused on jazz fusion, that is, hip-hop with rap and trumpets.
After he graduated, I thought we should reform this group with the new batch of students. One of the notable musicians from the new batch is Ilham, who in this performance is featured playing the gambus (aka the Oud).
I wrote this tune knowing he would be joining us. It incorporates various Arabic maqams. Many of the chords on the lead sheets were quartal or neutral 3rd chords as to avoid clashing with the microtonal scales.
If you are interested to perform this, don't hesitate to ask if you want the lead sheet!~
Looking for sheet music?
I sometimes write scores for real-life performances when I have to play with my string quartet, session with strangers or just to remember specific violin riffs or solos in some popular songs.
If, for whatever reason, you are interested in my sheet music, you can follow my musescore to find them. I also upload Works in Progress (WIP) of my upcoming compositions.
